Les Grands Ballets gets the ball rolling with the timeless lovers of Verona. Romeo and Juliet, jean-Christophe maillot’s three-act ballet, is based on William Shakespeare’s immortal play and set to the music of Sergei Prokofiev. Classical yet distinctly modern, this incandescent work, directly inspired by Prokofiev’s score, highlights the fragility and passion of adolescence over the traditional enmity between the two clans. Backed by the Orchestre des Grands Ballets Canadiens, Romeo and Juliet showcases the supreme talents of the Les Grands Ballet’s dancers to perfection. 演出日期：2009年10月16日（五）、17日（六）及22日（四），晚間八點 演出地點：Théâtre Maisonneuve，Place des Art 票務及訂購：Les Grands 參考網址：https://www.grandsballets.com/en/spectacle.php?spectacle=16 演出及劇情簡介： 莎士比亞的著名悲劇「羅密歐與茱麗葉」，數百年來不斷地以各種演出方式打動所有人的心。而普羅高菲夫於1938年完成的三幕芭蕾舞劇，無論在結構規模、人物性格、以及戲劇深度，都可算是眾多版本之佼佼者，知名度最高，其藝術價值亦最為突顯。 《羅密歐與茱麗葉》可說是英國大文豪莎士比亞最為人所熟知的作品，該劇雖曾被評論家認為並非高度藝術性之作，不少作曲家以《羅密歐與茱麗葉》為主題如柴可 夫斯基的幻想序曲等。但相較之下，普羅高菲夫的作品不論在結構規模、戲劇深度，都可算是眾多版本之佼佼者！這齣芭蕾舞劇充分顯示了普羅高菲夫對旋律線條的 匠心獨具。在固定的和聲與難以預料的轉調手法的烘托之下，創作出令人永難忘懷的旋律，作曲家本人就曾如此表述，「我特別在這部作品上花了相當的心血，為的 就是希望讓聽眾都能很快的體驗到此曲中深刻情感與旋律。若是有人尚未有此感動，相信我，他們遲早會感受出當中的精妙之處。」 場景：義大利維洛納 第一幕 蒙太鳩家族的羅密歐清晨時刻在廣場，想要追求羅莎琳達未果。不久太陽昇起，市鎮逐漸熱鬧起來，廣場上一片混亂。所幸維洛納公爵出現在廣場上，眾人也紛紛離 去。接者場景轉到卡普烈特家，羅密歐則帶著面具趁機與朋友邁丘西奧等混入。茱麗葉表演了一段獨舞，第一次見到茱麗葉的羅密歐，就被她那如花似玉般的容貌迷 得神魂顛倒…… 第二幕 清晨的廣場 滿心歡喜的羅密歐來到寺院裡，告訴勞倫斯神父他愛上茱麗葉的事，並要央求他主持兩人的婚禮。然而廣場上隨即發生一場兇殺案，眼見好友死在自己懷中，羅密歐 拿起劍就向泰巴特刺去，結束了他的生命。聽到消息的卡普烈特家族，趕來聚集在泰巴特的屍體周圍，立下誓言，必定要兇手以性命償還…… 第三幕 茱麗葉的房間 茱麗葉心中百般煎熬，決定前去尋求勞倫斯神父之協助，神父心生一計……隔日清晨，婚禮即將舉行，奶媽驚見倒在床上已無氣息的茱麗葉！心碎的羅密歐奔進墓 園，死在茱麗葉的身旁。而茱麗葉甦醒後，受到如此打擊，也相繼而逝。兩家世仇蒙太鳩與卡普烈特望著眼前的慘狀都痛不欲生，終因這樁悲劇換來了家族未來的和 平共處…… （校外）【音樂報馬仔】凡格羅夫指揮蒙特婁市立交響樂團 演出日期：2009年10月20（二）及21日（三），晚間八點 導聆講座：音樂會當日晚間七點，CBC Kelly Rice專訪Edgar Fruitier 演出地點：Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier，Place des Art 票務及訂購：OSM 參考網址：https://www.osm.ca/en/index_concerts_concert.cfm?ID=418 演出人員： 指揮／凡格羅夫 凡格羅夫是新生代小提琴演奏家中最閃亮的明星之一。他除了擁有高超的演奏技巧，在音樂的詮釋方面也很有自己的一套，不會人云亦云，而是不斷詢問自己音樂帶給自己什麼樣的感覺；這也是他與一般年輕音樂演奏家最不同的地方。 凡格羅夫出生於1974年俄國的新西伯利亞一個音樂家庭。三歲時，去看父親的管絃樂團表演，但當時卻很著急，因為看不到隱藏在樂團後面吹雙簧管的父親；凡格羅夫當下就決定要學小提琴，或許與他覺得在樂團中，拉小提琴才能不被擋住。 他五歲時跟小提琴大師Galina Turtschaninova學琴，每次練習的曲子多達十七首以上，他七歲時與祖父母非法遷居莫斯科，就讀於莫斯科音學院的附屬中學，但常遭警察的查問， 要假裝是因為需要醫病才過來。八歲時，他演奏技巧已經很高，已經開始跟老師弹奏西班牙狂想曲這類曲目。十歲時遷回新西伯利亞，跟小提琴名師布隆 （Zakhar Bron）學琴。另一方面凡格羅夫自己也教琴來解决生活開銷。在他十一歲時已經常常在歐洲甚至日本開音樂會。隔年他在倫敦的倫敦「卡爾弗萊什國際小提琴大 賽」（Carl Flesch International Violin Competition）中獲得首獎。使他在十五歲的年紀就被譽為非常成熟的音樂家，也迅速躍升為世界明星級演奏家。與布隆上課五年半後，他毅然決然停止上課，決定去尋找自己對音樂的感覺以及決定是否要繼續這條路。 他除了技巧高超外，在音樂的詮釋方面也很有一套，不隨俗，這也是他與一般音樂演奏家最不同的地方。 小提琴／Andrew Wan Andrew Wan is equally at home as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral musician. In August of 2008, he was named co-concertmaster of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra (MSO) under Maestro Kent Nagano, making him one of the youngest concertmasters of a major symphony. His relationship with this orchestra began with performances of Elgar’s Violin Concerto under Jean-Francois Rivest, which were hailed as one of the top two musical moments of 2007 by La Presse. As soloist, he has appeared with the orchestras of Montreal, Toronto, Newfoundland, Juilliard, Aspen, and Edmonton under conductors such as Casadesus, Oundjian, DePreist and Stern. Highlights of next year’s concerto dates include performances of Brahms’ Double Concerto and Beethoven’s Violin Concerto with the MSO under the batons of Kent Nagano and Maxim Vengerov, and his debut with the Singapore National Youth Orchestra. Mr. Wan has concertized extensively throughout the world, appearing in recital in venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Jordan Hall and Salle Gaveau in Paris with artists such as the Juillard Quartet, Sejong, the New Zealand Trio, and Cho-Liang Lin. This summer, he performs with the MSO, the Aspen Academy of Conducting Orchestra, the Chamber Players of Canada, the New Orford Quartet, the N-E-W Piano Trio, and Gil Shaham. Mr. Wan received his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music Degrees from the Juilliard School under tutelage of Masao Kawasaki and Ron Copes. In 2008, he was the only violinist to be accepted into the prestigious Artist Diploma Program at Juilliard. He is currently on faculty at the Schulich School of Music at McGill University in Montreal. The Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Emerging Artist Award, Canada Council, Anne Burrows Foundation, Alberta Foundation for the Arts, and Winspear Fund have generously supported Mr. Wan. 大提琴／Brian Manker Solo Cellist of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal since 1999, Brian Manker enjoys a diverse and varied musical career as a performer and teacher. In addition to being a frequent concerto soloist with the OSM, Mr. Manker has performed throughout North America as a member of the Harrington String Quartet, the Cassatt Quartet, and the Atlanta Chamber Players, and performed chamber music with many distinguished artists including Walter Trampler, Laurence Lesser, Gary Graffman, Lee Luvisi, and Jean-Philippe Collard. A Grand Prize winner as a member of the Harrington Quartet at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, Mr. Manker also received a special commendation from Sir Yehudi Menuhin at the Portsmouth International String Quartet Competition. He has participated in many music festivals, including Norfolk, Blossom, Chamber Music East, Roundtop, Swannanoa, the Ottawa Chamber Music Festival, masterclasses at Orford, Domaine Forget, and at the Canton International Summer Music Academy in China. He has performed for radio, television, and internet broadcasts on the CBC, WFMT Chicago, and WQXR New York, and can be heard on numerous recordings of chamber music and of course with the OSM. Mr. Manker served on the jury of the prestigious and historic Prague Spring International cello Competition in 2006. Currently on the faculty of McGill University, Brian Manker has also taught at West Texas State and Emory Universities.
