Elijah is one of the pillars of the nineteenth-century choral repertoire. This masterpiece follows in the great line of Handel; the synopsis, taken from the Old Testament, relates the struggle between the prophet Elijah, defender of the Hebrew faith, and the followers of Baal. It is one of Mendelssohn’s last and most beautiful compositions, and will be re-created just as it was first performed in Birmingham: in Shakespeare’s tongue.
孟德爾頌的神劇「伊利亞」是以舊約聖經中的先知伊利亞作為主題寫成的,此劇在他成功的「聖保祿」神劇完成之後十年才開始動筆,之後又遭遇劇本創作上的許多問題,一直到一八四五年才得以問世,首演當時,動用了一百二十五人的樂團、兩百七十一人的合唱團共同參與,大獲成功。在孟德爾頌筆下,原本在舊約聖經中被記錄下許多殘忍、嚴苛事蹟的先知以利亞,成為一位對上帝信心堅定、但卻非常具同情心和仁慈的先知。作為講述以神蹟帶給以色列人民唯一真神信仰的先知的神劇,孟德爾頌選中了以利亞將巴爾人放在木堆上,命他們呼喚巴爾神和上帝以視誰的神才靈驗的場面、以及以利亞為長年乾旱祈來甘霖的場面作為劇中的重頭戲。而要純用音樂來描寫這些非常戲劇化的場面,則考驗著孟德爾頌作為成熟作曲家的功力,也正是因為孟德爾頌在這些樂段中成功的音畫描寫能力,而讓「伊利亞」一劇成為浪漫派最偉大的神劇代表作。前一幕中,他要以合唱團和樂團共同描寫巴爾人無助地在火堆上祈求巴爾神的場面,並描寫出熊熊烈火的恐怖畫面。在後一幕中,他則要以音樂描寫以利亞接連三次祈求上帝降下甘霖,前兩次都不見回應,在音樂中,孟德爾頌要用樂聲描寫那一覽無雲的天空帶來的失落,然後在第三次的祈禱之後,孟德爾頌則活靈活現地依照舊約中的描述,用樂團勾勒出天空先是些許烏雲飄現,緊接著則出現狂風暴雨,最後風聲越來越大,乃至降下甘霖、全民欣喜的場面。

Yannick Nézet-Séguin (born 1975, Montreal) is a French Canadian conductor. He is the son of two professors of education. Nézet-Séguin began to study piano at age five, and decided to become an orchestral conductor at age ten.[1]
Nézet-Séguin became the musical director of the Chœur polyphonique de Montréal in 1994 and enrolled at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec the following year. He also studied choral conducting with Joseph Flummerfelt and Hermann Max at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey.
At age 22, he succeeded Bernard Uzan as Director of the Opéra de Montréal in 1998. In 1999 and 2000, he conducted the Orchestra of Les Grands Ballets Canadiens in The Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky, as well the chamber orchestra Les Violons du Roy. He has been music director of the Orchestre Métropolitain du Grand Montréal since 2000. Nézet-Séguin considers Charles Dutoit and Carlo Maria Giulini as his greatest inspirations as conductors. His current contract with the Orchestre Métropolitain is through 2010.[2]
His UK conducting debut was with the Northern Sinfonia in the 2005-2006 season. He has since debuted with the London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) in March 2007, and with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra in April 2007.[3] In November 2007, the LPO named Nézet-Séguin as their new principal guest conductor, effective with the 2008-2009 season.[4]
In 2005, Nézet-Séguin guest-conducted the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra (RPhO) for the first time, and returned in 2006. In December 2006, the RPhO announced the appointment of Nézet-Séguin as their 11th Principal Conductor, by a unanimous vote, effective with the 2008-2009 concert season.[5] Nézet-Séguin has an initial contract in Rotterdam for 4 years.
女高音/Measha Brueggergosman
Brueggergosman's paternal great-great-great great grandfather fled slavery in Connecticut during the American Revolution to Shelburne, Nova Scotia in the 1780s, later settling in Fredericton. According to DNA records, it is likely her ancestors came from the Bassa people of Cameroon.[1] As a child Brueggergosman began singing in the choir of her local Baptist church. As a teen, she took voice lessons in her home town, and spent summers on scholarships at the Boston Conservatory and at a choral camp in Rothesay, New Brunswick. She studied for one year with New Brunswick soprano Wendy Nielson, before moving on to studies at the University of Toronto, where she obtained a B.Mus, and then pursuing a Master's degree at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf, Germany.
She is married to Markus Brüggergosman, born Markus Brügger. When they married, they combined their last names to Brüggergosman or Brueggergosman
加拿大極富盛名的聲樂女高音 Measha Brueggergosman,自身有一股壓倒眾人、女王般的氣勢,有她在的地方竹籬茅舍也會變殿堂華廈。Measha演唱的時候習慣光著腳在舞台上 ( barefoot ),所以禮服要蓋過腳 ,而且裙幅也不能過長拖地。
女中音/Krisztina Szabó
Krisztina Szabó, is a Hungarian-Canadian mezzo-soprano who has performed in a number of operatic roles. A graduate of the University of Western Ontario, Szabó finished her postgraduate studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, England. She was awarded the Emerging Artist grant from the Canada Council.Ms. Szabó was a 1997 winner of the Mozart Competition, held under the auspices of the Canadian Opera Company, and in 1998 she joined the Canadian Opera's Ensemble Studio. It was with the Canadian Opera Ensemble Studio that she sang the title role in Britten's The Rape of Lucretia, with which she made her European debut in Amsterdam.

Joseph Kaiser is a Canadian operatic tenor. He has performed as a soloist with the New York Metropolitan Opera, making his debut in 2007.

Jonathan Fa'afetai Lemalu (born 1976) is a New Zealand opera singer, of Samoan descent. Born in Dunedin, he sings in the bass baritone register.
Lemalu studied at the Royal College of Music (RCM) winning the college's gold medal award in 2002, and the prestigious London based Kathleen Ferrier Award also in 2002. He was the 2004 winner of the Royal Philharmonic Society's award for Young Artist of the Year.
雷默魯,紐西蘭低男中音,世界樂壇少見的薩摩亞族人,但年紀輕輕的他,卻已經在樂壇上站上頂尖的地位。畢業於倫敦皇家音樂院的他,是2002年凱瑟琳費莉兒歌唱大賽的首獎,也因為該獎讓他獲得與EMI簽下獨家合約的機會,這份錄音就是他在EMI的第一份錄音,發行後立刻贏得留聲機大獎的新人首張專輯獎。片中他演唱了包括德文、法文和英文的浪漫藝術歌曲。今年32歲的他,其實先天患有心臟病,但卻邊接受歌唱訓練、邊攻讀法律,最後更拿到法律學士文憑。之後才轉赴英國全力攻讀音樂。在樂壇上像雷默魯這樣的低男中音並不多,他那獨特柔美的音色更讓他成為眾家歌劇院爭相邀請演出的對象,這份錄音,他的歌聲讓人如沐春風一般的感受到音樂的溫暖。
才剛在2002年完成英國皇家音樂院學位並獲得最高榮譽金牌獎的雷默魯,轉眼之間已經竄紅歐洲樂壇,被譽為「太平洋之寶」,今年他更被EMI公司相中,與他簽下三年的獨家合約,並立刻為他出版了第二張專輯。這位來自紐西蘭薩摩亞人後裔的歌唱家,今年先要在一、二月間登上米蘭威爾第音樂院、倫敦魏加摩廳、阿姆斯特丹大會堂、巴黎羅浮宮舉行獨奏會,接著就在三月開始登上大都會歌劇院演出「唐喬望尼」。隨後更會回到歐洲來到巴伐利亞國家歌劇院演唱「掃羅」、接著再來到英國科芬園皇家歌劇院演唱「波西米亞人」,可以說是集合幸運與天賦於一身。這位一九七六年出生的二十九歲年輕人,出生時就罹患心臟病,差點就不能存活下來,從小參加合唱團的他,一開始是打算成為律師的,但他在一邊攻讀學位的同時,卻也在追求自己的音樂理想,所以一等畢業他就從紐西蘭飛往倫敦接受更進一步的聲樂訓練。之後他很快就從歌唱大賽和正式演出中成為近年來最受到喜愛的低男中音。他歌唱的魅力在於他低沉的聲音中有一種甜郁、迷人的特質,而不像有些男中音顯得蒼老或是邪惡。就像大部份成功的低男中音一樣,雷默魯也同樣擁有出色的表演才華,這也註定他將會成為未來的歌劇巨星。
