Program summary:
The Ministère de l'Éducation du Québec (MEQ) has reintroduced the Quebec Merit Fellowships for Foreign Doctoral Students (V1), Postdocs (V2) and Visiting Research Students and Visiting Researchers (V3) and given the administration to the Fonds Québécois de la recherche sur la nature et les technologies (FQRNT).
The program is by University nomination only. Each Quebec university is entitled to nominate four (4) candidates in each of three categories in the summer 2008. The final selection will be done by a central FQRNT committee.
Categories, value and duration:
• V1 - Doctoral Students:$25,000 per year for up to 3 years, with possibility of extension for 12 months at a reduced amount;
• V2 - Postdoctoral Scholars: $35,000 per year for 1 year, non-renewable;
• V3 –Visiting Research Student and Visiting Researcher: $3,000 per month for max. 4 months, non-renewable.
What's New:
• V1 – A candidate admitted into a doctoral program from a bachelor's program or one who fast-tracks into a doctoral program without writing a thesis may only apply to the PhD scholarships competition (V1) in order to be funded during the 3rd, 4th and 5th years of his/her PhD studies.
Reminders:
· V2 Postdoctoral: Research must be conducted in a university other than the university where the PhD was granted.
· V3 Visiting Research Student and Visiting Researcher: May not be at the institution nominating them for a visit at the time of application.
· V1, V2 and V3: Program and research must be conducted in Quebec.
Deadlines for:
• students/supervisors to department: Thursday, August 14, 2008;
• departments to GPSO (complete applications): Tuesday, August 26, 2008;
• university nominations to FQRNT: Friday, September 26, 2008 at 4:00 PM
• nominated student to apply to FQRNT: November 1, 2008
